An Abdominoplasty or ‘tummy tuck’, is performed to make the abdomen (tummy) firmer and thinner by removing the excess skin and fat from the area. This procedure tightens the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall. Patients with loose or sagging tissues around the abdominal region and those experiencing loose skin after pregnancy are ideal candidates for an Abdominoplasty.
Due to the nature of this procedure and what it targets, the scope of the operation can vary from patient to patient and can take anything between 2 to 5 hours to complete. A short stay in hospital will be required and results should be visible within a couple of weeks once the bruising and swelling has subsided.
Is the treatment painful?
Any discomfort in the healing process is assisted with simple painkillers. We are always available for any concerns that our patients may have.
How long will I be off my feet for after the surgery?
Patients are able to walk the same day, it is recommended for the patient to begin walking the same to encourage blood flow and to prevent deep vein thrombosis.
Will I need to wear any supports?
You will need to wear compression stockings in order to prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis, this is normally for 5 -7 days. You will also be required to wear a garment around the abdomen to support the correct healing process, this is normally for a two-week period.
Is there any special diet for the healing process?
A high protein diet is recommended from the day of the surgery and for at least a month.
Will I have noticeable scars?
Incisions are placed along the bikini line in such a way that any scarring will not be as visible. Our aftercare service helps greatly in the healing process to minimise noticeable scarring.
