Typically women who are unhappy with the size, shape, weight or droop of their breasts are candidates for breast reduction surgery. When breasts are excessively large and heavy causing severe discomfort or back pain, breast reduction surgery is often the solution.
The procedure reduces the size, weight and volume of the breasts by removing excess fat, tissue and skin around the area, reshaping them and repositioning the nipples to create a more lifted, firmer, youthful look.
A short stay in hospital is normally required and results should be visible within a couple of weeks once the bruising and swelling has subsided.
Is Breast Reduction permanent?
Breast reduction is a permanent solution to having smaller breasts. On occasion such as pregnancy, weight gain and menopause small amounts of breast tissue can grow back.
Will I experience any bruising, pain and discomfort?
Swelling and bruising is common and the severity of pain or discomfort is different with each patient. The surgeon or staff will suggest products or supplements to reduce the swelling and bruising and may prescribe medication to treat any pain.
Will there be any visible breast reduction scars?
Due to the nature of the breast reduction surgery you will be left with permanent scars made from the incisions within the natural folds of the breasts and possibly around the areola. Unnecessary scarring will be avoided.
When will I be able to see results?
You should be able to notice the difference in size almost immediately. Furthermore after the swelling subsides, you will begin to notice a difference in the appearance of your breasts.
Am I a suitable candidate for a breast reduction?
Breast Reduction surgery is suitable for you if you are physically healthy, have realistic expectations, experience physical or emotional pain caused by the weight of your breasts, and, or have skin irritation beneath the crease of your breasts.
