Bring back that youthful glow to your eyes

BLEPHAROPLASTY UPPER

Upper eyelid surgery is normally required with age as skin naturally loses its elasticity. Loose skin accumulates in the upper eyelids and collects together as folds making the eyelids appear baggy and sometimes block the upper field of vision. The muscles beneath the skin slacken beneath the skin to allow the fat which cushions the eyes to then protrude forward. Genetics can also play a role where inherently bags develop in early adulthood.

Upper eyelid surgery can be carried out under local or general anaestheia. Incisions are made along the natural lines of the eyelids and surplus fat, excess skin and sagging muscle is removed.  It is best to keep the head elevated for a few days after surgery to reduce swelling and sutures are usually removed 3 to 5 days after surgery.

FAQ's

What is Upper Blepharoplasty?

Upper Blepharoplasty is also knows as upper eyelid surgery. The purpose of this surgery is to rejuvenate the eyes through the removal of excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids. This surgery can also help in some cases where the sagging skin on the upper eyelids obscures vision.

Am I suitable for eyelid surgery?

Candidates for eyelid surgery must be in good health with a positive outlook and specific goals for their surgery. Generally candidates are over 35 years old however in some cases hereditary conditions means that this surgery can be performed at younger ages.

What does surgery involve?

A fine incision is made in the natural crease that runs above the eyelashes, this is the best place to avoid any visible scarring. The excess skin and fat is removed from the upper eyelids to produce a younger smoother look to the eyes. Fine sutures are used which heals to produce a natural look to the eyes.

What about after surgery?

You will remain in hospital for at least 3 hours after surgery lying in an elevated position to reduce swelling. Cold compresses will be used and we will regularly monitor your eyes. Lubricating ointment may also be used. Sutures are normally removed a few days after surgery and you will have a complete aftercare package that will ensure a speedy recovery and healing process.

Will there be visible scars?

The final results will be within 6-12 months. The eyelids will heal within around a week however the scars need time to settle and fully heal. Upper eyelid surgery incisions are performed in the natural folds of the eyelid and when fully healed are incredibly difficult to spot.
