Facelift procedures are generally performed as part of the ageing process. Skin progressively loses its elasticity and the facial muscles start to slacken. In time, folds and lines across the face start to deepen, wrinkles develop around the lips and the corners of the eye area and the corners of the mouth start to droop. Gravity, stress and even exposure to the sun also play a role, having a direct effect on the skin and its 'natural' appearance.
Facelift procedures are carried out under general anaesthesia and can be a long process. As a result they are often combined with other facial and cosmetic procedures and there is normally a short stay in hospital required. Some puffing and bruising of the face area is common post-surgery which will usually disappear within a few weeks. Facelifts can vary from the standard facelift which helps the lower half of the face to facelifts that deal with the forehead and upper parts of the face. Deep facelifts can be carried out endoscopically to avoid ear to ear incisions although these are generally carried out at a lower age.

The optimal age for a facelift is most suited to people from mid-forty or early fifties depending on heredity factors, skin elasticity and exposure to the sun.
Can I go sunbathing after a facelift?
Sunbathing or excessive exposure to sunlight after a facelift should be avoided as this may cause hyperpigmentation or darkening of fresh, healing scars. Furthermore the sun can cause permanent skin damage.
Can I have other cosmetic surgery procedures at the same time as a facelift?
Yes. Often patients decide to have their eyes and brows done. It is useful to know that combining procedures will mean the recovery time will take longer but allows you to complete personal goals at one time.
Are there noticeable scars after facelift?
Minimal scars are present but well hidden under the hairline, usually only noticeable to the patient.
After a facelift will I require another procedure?
Whilst ageing is inevitable, a facelift has excellent longevity results for a more youthful appearance. Some patients may want a revision facelift surgery usually 10-20 years later.
