Scar revision is a cosmetic surgical procedure meant to minimise the appearance of a scar or scars that has/have occurred as a result of a previous wound or operation so that it/they match surrounding skin tone and texture. The type of scar revision surgery, treatment or a combination undertaken depends on the size, location and characteristics of the scar.
Surgical scar excision includes surgically cutting the skin out and drawing and stitching the surrounding skin to form a new, neater and less visible scar. Another method includes cutting the scar out and replacing it with a skin graft from a healthier part of the body. The risks associated with scar revision surgery and treatments are minimal, however, rare cases have reported infection and slight changes in skin colour.
When will I see results?
You should begin to see results within the first month post operation/treatment. Full results however can take from six months to a year.
